Creating Passion to FUEL your DREAMS
Dreams are the essence of a life well-lived, the proof we dared to be more, do more than what life intended. When we dream, we are asking ourselves what more we could be, what more we could do. Choosing to believe in our dreams, to chase our dreams is what separates us from the beasts in the fields. While we are content with what we have, we want to achieve more, be more, do more.
Having a dream is what keeps us moving through the hard times, gives us the energy to face challenges, obstacles, and hardships. Dreams give us the push we need to pivot and adapt to life, to ensure that while we are doing more than surviving, we are on the road to the road to greatness. Greatness for some may be working one job, paying for their child to attend college. Greatness for others cannot be measured or judged by us, greatness can only be defined by oneself.
Yet we need more than a dream to maintain our momentum forward. We need passion, passion to fuel our dreams, to motivate us to do just one more rep, one more thing to bring us closer to our dreams. Developing this passion nurturing this passion provides the fuel we need to see our dreams through to completion.
Have you ever seen a person so driven to achieve their dreams that nothing sets them back? A determination appearing to seep from their very core? These people have discovered how to fuel their passion, how to continually be passionate about their dreams. Choosing to be continually passionate about your dreams will forever change your perspective, it is a journey you cannot turn back from.
Once you have decided to have unending passion, you must first change your perspective. You must acknowledge and believe you are deserving of this dream. An unworthy person can never achieve their dreams. And the person to define your worthiness is yourself. This may require reflection, forgiveness, growth, even massive change. But until you choose to believe you are worthy, you will never achieve your dreams.
Acknowledging and believing your worthiness, you must strive to be humble. The one single fault, which destroyed every Greek hero was hubris. If you remain humble, acknowledge you are worthy of your dream, but that there are others who are also worthy, perhaps even more worthy, see accomplishments as a step closer to your dream, not greatness, you are humble. Humility is the key many miss, we cannot be great, do great things, if we allow our egos to play a role.
To continue developing your passion, you must next nurture the desire to learn and be better. Part of this step is knowing there is no such thing as a failure, rather there are opportunities to learn and do better. If every setback and perceived failure is approached with the questions of what I can learn, what I can do better, and what I should not do again, every failure becomes a win. Knowing we will always do better tomorrow, we can always be more, is enough to keep our curious nature alive.
Defining actionable steps, small tasks you can do well every day to achieve your dream will fuel your passion. No one will ever be successful if they set out to climb a tall mountain. Rather, when we set smaller goals, work to prepare ourselves, take a few steps forward and assess, success will find us. You see, we do not have unlimited amounts of energy or hours in the day. While we must pursue our dreams with reckless abandon, we must also be realistic about what we can achieve in one day. And, as much as we may not want to admit it, we also need to plan for rest and reflection. Rest heals us for the next portion of our journey, reflection ensures we continue to grow and move forward.
Pushing ourselves to do one more thing every day will show us our tenacity. You see, it would be easy to simply stop at the desired number of steps or activities. But what if you did just one more. For example, what if you made one more portion at dinner and ate that for lunch the next day. You are guaranteed a hot, nutritious meal, with no prep and very little clean-up, at almost no cost. Or what if you did one more sit-up or one more push-up? Your journey to become fit and in shape would progress faster. Balancing one more with a realistic approach to life will ensure a well-fueled passion. How could you not become ecstatic watching how much closer you are to your dreams every day?
Finally, celebrate your wins. When you accomplish something amazing, meet a deadline, or simply maintain the basics, choose to celebrate. The act of celebrating our wins purposely shows us our victories, intentionally highlighting how much closer we are to our end goal. The moments of celebration carry us through the bleak times, give us a taste of our ultimate victory. A life without celebration is a life lived in black and white. Passion is fueled by technicolor and glitter. Celebrating your wins, fuels your passions. My personal favorite way to celebrate a win, a great day, or even just a perfect moment is to gather my dogs, play a song from my high school days, and just dance. My dogs love the moment of free energy, I love their excitement and joy. It may not sound like much of a celebration, but it is enough to fuel my passion through the next challenge.
Dreams and passion are the very essences of a life well-lived. Dreams don’t need to be altruistic or life-changing, they can be as simple as the creation of a positive morning routine that gets you out on time and in a great mood. You see, being on time, relieves a burden for someone, and a great mood is contagious. Imagine being so intentional in the achievement of your dreams, that you invested a small portion of each day to complete one action designed to bring you closer to the end. Choosing to live a life well-lived is this simple. Choose a life filled with technicolor and dreams.
Sincerely,
